At Swaffham Golf Club on 27th September 2021.

The disruption to our golfing year from Covid meant that Mike Topper agreed to serve a two year term as Captain and with no event possible last February, he requested a “semi-final” fling this Autumn, choosing Swaffham again. Entry arrangements were changed in line with our computerised tee booking system from being paper-based to using the Club V1 app and e-mails. Although some seniors were confused at finding the meeting on “Christmas Day” and then how to select their meal options, everyone got there in the end, albeit with some generous help from our club office!

The forecast was for a wet and windy day but fortunately the rain stopped early on and a good turnout of sixty-six Seniors with Jon Markham as our guest, found the course in excellent condition and some very good scores were returned. We enjoyed the usual excellent lunch, after which Mike thanked everyone for coming and supporting him through a difficult year, and presented the prizes, again vouchers redeemable at our Professional Shop as follows:

1st prize with 39 pts.                                   David Robinson

and winner of the Bayley Trophy

2nd prize with 38 pts.                                 Phil Fairbrother

3rd prize with 37 pts.                                 Keith Cresswell

4th prize with 36pts. on countback          Gareth Knowles

5th prize with 36 pts. on countback         Paul Freeman

Best front 9 with 21 pts.                            Nobby Clark

Best back 9 with 22 pts.                            Alan Chadwick

Nearest the pin on 6th hole                     Alan Whitelaw

Nearest the pin on 16th hole                    Gareth Knowles

Nearest the pin in 2 on 4th hole               Rick Brothwell

The winner thanked Mike, and the green and catering staff at Swaffham, then Mike reminded everyone that he will have a “final” final fling at Halesworth next February.
